Cribs for Kids is a pilot program brought to you by Greenville Hospital System
Children’s Hospital Infant Apnea Program and Safe Kids Upstate. The program aims
to reduce the number of infant deaths due to unsafe sleeping environments. Many
families who cannot afford a crib or who lack education about safe sleep put their
babies at great risk of suffocation, falls, or entrapment. The Cribs for Kids
program is bringing free education and portable cribs to eligible families.
To qualify for a free crib, the parent/caregiver must agree to specific requirements,
which include attending a safe sleep education session and referral by a social
service program that conducts follow up home visits. These requirements are vital
to the program; they allow us to evaluate our success and track the health status
of the infants who receive the cribs.
We have a limited number of cribs available, which we have purchased through
a discount program with Graco. For the program to succeed and continue, we must
ensure that only the neediest families receive this potentially life-saving crib.
