Below is a copy of a letter sent to ATV dealers in South Carolina regarding new legislation. For more information on Chandler's Law, click on the links included in the letter.Dear ATV Dealer,As you know, Chandler’s Law , ATV safety legislation for children, was signed into law on May 13, 2011. The law is effective July 1, 2011. A coalition of organizations and individuals have come together to educate the public about the law’s requirements. This coalition includes the South Carolina Children’s Hospital Collaborative, Safe Kids South Carolina, SC DHEC, Child Law office, Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA), a representative from a SC ATV dealer, and the Saylor family. (Chandler’s parents). The governor’s office is also supporting this effort.We are aware that dealers are a primary point of contact and information for ATV riders. As such, we want to ensure that you are adequately informed about the law and our implementation plans. First, I am attaching some basic information about Chandler’s Law . This information includes the following:A copy of the actual lawQuestions and Answers About the LawExample Scenarios and the LawWe are also finishing work on a website – ChandlersATVLaw.com – that will be live by July 1st. This website will have links to the online enrollment for ATV Safety Institute’s training classes, information for parents, information for kids (including questions and answers just for kids), and basic information about the law. We hope that you will consider including a link to the website in your respective websites.
